Where to put a drink on an editing desk

Plan around the work you actually do at the controls.

Map the moving parts

Sit at the desk and go through ordinary editing movements before choosing a drink spot. Include the mouse sweep, a jog wheel, keyboard shortcuts and reaching for headphones. A space that looks empty may still be part of the working area. Keep the drink outside these movements rather than merely outside the keyboard.

Separate drives and drinkware

Avoid placing the drink above or immediately beside external drives, hubs and cable connections. Steadi is not a waterproof barrier, so a wider base is not a reason to reduce separation. If the workspace is crowded, a stable side table within comfortable reach may solve the surface problem more directly.

Measure the remaining clear surface

Allow the full 5.2-inch footprint plus room for fingers and container handles. Do not bridge the edge of a desk mat or a cable channel. Measure the actual container base, including any sleeve or boot: 2–3.15 inches is the inclusive diameter range. Full seating still matters.
